During the three-month exhibit NeoRealismo: The New Image in Italy, 1932-1960, we will offer the special program Italian Cinema and NeoRealismo, featuring a lecture and a film series presented by Dr. Karen D. Antonelli.

Bicycle Thieves (Ladri di biciclette, 1948) portrays a post-World War II Rome, a city that is still suffering the physical and economic aftermath of over twenty years of fascism, a devastating war, and rampant unemployment. Using non-professional actors, director Vittorio De Sica shows us these conditions through a tender, yet at times, harsh relationship among the members of a poor working-class family.
