During the three-month exhibit NeoRealismo: The New Image in Italy, 1932-1960, we will offer the special program Italian Cinema and NeoRealismo, featuring a lecture and a film series presented by Dr. Karen D. Antonelli.

Over the past few weeks, we have seen two aspects of post-war Italy. In Bitter Rice (Riso amaro, 1949), director Giuseppe De Santis
explores the life of women who work in the rice fields of the Po Valley; migrant workers who travel from all parts of Italy to find work and earn a little money and a bag of rice to feed their families.
