d. 1966 Paris, FranceGino Severini, a native of Cortona moved in his youth to Rome to study at the Villa Medici. In Rome he met Umberto Boccioni, a founding theoretician of Futurism who became a life-long friend. Severini then moved to Paris and became immersed in the Avant-garde movement where he met Georges Braque, Juan Gris and Pablo Picasso. Severini produced many works in the Futurist manner and provided an important link between the art worlds of France and Italy. Severini experimented with a Cubist style, frequently intertwining it with Futurist subjects and published many essays and books on art theory. His works are in major museums throughout the world, including Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle, The Netherlands; Guggenheim Museum, New York; and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. He died in 1966 in Paris.
