The Bunner Sisters by Richard Alleman, inspired by a novella by Edith Wharton.
Italian translation by Simone I.M. Pratelli.

A reading in English and Italian
Directed by Anthony Newfield

Adapted for the stage by Richard Alleman from Edith Wharton’s novella, The Bunner Sisters follows the lives of two spinster sisters as they try to eke out a living as seamstresses in 1880s New York. Their lives are upended, however, with the arrival of a mysterious gentleman on the scene. The play’s world premiere was in San Francisco in 2016. It will soon cross the Atlantic, where it is slated for a production in Pisa, Italy—a country Edith Wharton loved and wrote about frequently—thanks to a new translation by Pisa-based Simone Pratelli. Giving San Francisco audiences a chance to catch both versions of the play, the Museo will present slimmed-down, back-to-back staged readings of both the original English along with the new Italian Le sorelle Bunner.
