The first wave of contemporary Italian singer-songwriters (cantautori) originated in the 1960s and included artists like Fabrizio De André (pictured), Lucio Dalla and Giorgio Gaber. In this afternoon of music you’ll hear a selection of songs by these cantautori that touch on some of the social and political currents in Italy in the 60s, 70s and 80s. With introductions that set the cultural context for each song, and with English translations available, Museo student Dennis Criteser and his trio, Bella Strada, will introduce you to some classic gems of the Italian pop music world.

Dennis is General Manager and Program Director at Blue Bear School of Music, and has produced albums in folk, rock, and jazz styles for a variety of Bay Area artists. He has also cut eight albums of original music as “Diesel Cats”, ranging from the cinematic musico-documentary “History Club Minutes” to the faux-jazz hip-ocracy of “In Search of Blue Treasure”.
