PizziCali, a Bay Area Italian folk band, consisting of Mario Di Dio – guitar and vocals, Viola Pellegrini – violin, Alessandra Chimienti – tambourine and percussion, Donna Viscuso – flute, Jaqueline Rago – percussion and Angelo Marietta – bass, will present a lecture-concert on the rich history and the captivativing music of “Il Sud” (the South) of Italy.

Born as a beautiful marriage of friendship and musicianship, PizziCali is a band committed to sharing its love for old rhythms and traditions from different Southern regions of Italy. PizziCali’s mission is to spread in the Bay Area the passion for Southern Italian music, especially that of Puglia, with original arrangements.

At this event the audience will enjoy a live concert and learn about the history behind each piece and how it fits in the political and social climate it represents. Dancing is an integral part of this music so you are all invited to bring your dancing shoes and join in the healing powers of Pizzica.

A reception with traditional flavors provided by Gianluca Gatto – Panificio “L’Arte del Pane”, Agata Gatto – Panificio “Antico Forno” di Chiesanuova and Giuseppe De Mitri – Pasticceria De Mitri, all of whom are based in Sannicola/Puglia, will follow the concert.
