Franco Viola graduated from the University of Rome in 1977 with a degree in electrical engineering and worked in research on spatial theory before devoting himself entirely to his love art in the mid-1990s. Franco would make sketches of landscapes and fragments of landscapes which he then transformed onto canvas. He is known primarily as a landscape artist.
