Description
Written by Idanna Pucci, this book tells the incredible true story of Italian immigrant Maria Barbella, who was sentenced to death in 1895 by a New York City jury for murdering the man who raped and abused her. The author’s great-grandmother, American born Cora Slocomb, the Countess di Brazza (and a committed human rights activist) relocated to New York City from Italy to launch Maria’s appeal, which resulted in a second trial and the triumph of an acquittal.
